Ready to get started? Here’s how the magic happens!

  • 1. The Sample

Send me 500 words in Google Docs or Word. I’ll edit the sample and send it back with a quote.

  • 2. The Go-Ahead

You review my edits and the quote, we’ll agree on scope and timeline, and you’ll pay 50%.

  • 3. The Magic

I’ll edit your manuscript and send it back to you with changes tracked; you pay the balance.

Nice to Know

Got a question I haven’t answered? Please reach out to me by email at magicwordeditor@gmail.com.

  • I edit academic conference papers, reviews and articles for submission to peer-reviewed journals, dissertations, and book projects, primarily in the humanities (particularly critical theory).

I also edit grant applications to the Canada Council for the Arts, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research of Canada Council, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, as well as nominations for arts and health research prizes, fellowships, and awards.

  • Once I’ve edited your sample, we’ll agree on the level and type of editing that best suits your manuscript and your budget. Maybe you’re almost ready to submit the paper, and all you need is a final stylistic edit. Maybe you’re in the midst of revising your dissertation, and it could use a heavier structural edit as well.

As I edit, I’ll track all my changes in Word or Google Docs, and will include any comments and questions in the document. I’ll also provide a detailed description of my changes and suggestions when I send the manuscript back to you, and am always happy to answer any questions about my suggestions or edits.

  • We can work together to find a timeline that meets your needs and fits my schedule.

For longer projects, I can send sections or chapters back as I complete my edits, which gives you more time to review and incorporate my suggestions.

If I can’t meet your deadline, I’m happy to recommend a colleague who can.

  • I provide a quote based on the total length of the manuscript, your requested level of editing, and the length of time my sample edit takes. My estimate is based on an hourly rate of $75 CDN.

If you’re working on a budget, we can set a maximum and I'll do as much editing as I can within that amount.
